Anastasia Trofimova, documentary filmmaker

Born in Moscow, Russia.

Directed 6 feature-length and 8 short documentaries to date.

Filmed in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Guinea, Serbia, Bosnia, Canada, US, UK, the Netherlands, Russia and other countries.

Started out by taking on all available jobs: editor, translator, sound person, cinematographer, producer and, finally, director. Thanks to that varied experience, I feel at home with all aspects of production and post-production.

B.A. (Hon) in Communications/Political Science from the University of Toronto/Sheridan College and Ms.C. in International Relations from the University of Amsterdam.

Winner of the Canada Screen Award for “Best Research” for HBO’s “Tales from the Organ Trade”. Five-time returning judge for the News and Documentary Emmy Awards.

Speak fluent English, Russian and intermediate Arabic.
